You Won’t Believe What I Found On This Nissan

rev up your engines today I’m gonna talk
about whether you should get rid of a car that you have or whether you should
continue owning it and taking care of it and I’ve got a perfect example here my customer
here she owns a ten-year-old Infiniti she’s
asking me should I keep this car or should I get something else is it gonna
give me a lot of problems I can still drive it a few years now if you’ve been
watching me anything like the time you’ll know I’ll say don’t go buy used
infiniti g37 or any high-end infiniti because they can become money pits as
they age but here I’m gonna give an honest evaluation of the car to my
customer okay we climb inside and we see it’s got ninety two thousand three
hundred and two miles on it that’s got all the bells and whistles and she said
they all work perfectly fine she’s never had any problems with them and you have
a lot of trims cracking the places and the other trim is fading away coating on
the plastic is wearing off but if we go into the back it’s immaculate no
problems there because hey she drives the car by herself nobody else nobody is using
it we got to the passenger side hey that’s immaculate too that’s not faded away
that’s not cracked she just drives the car by yourself and
we check in the trunk pop it open everything’s clean the seals clean she
told me it’s never been wrecked and it certainly looks like it never has been
and when we pull the hood release and check under the hood
it’s got the ultra reliable v6 engine in it it doesn’t burn any oil or lose any
coolant and being the original owner she hasn’t had any major problems the
biggest thing she did was have the front struts change because it was bouncing
too much so it’s got a history of being a pretty good cars never been wrecked
but you never know so I’m getting my fancy scan tool and we’ll hook it up
just plug it under the dash it goes problems can’t hide from these machines
we just pressed Diagnostics then infinity and away we go smart machine it
knows what it’s doing it’s already read the whole thing and now we scan it auto
scans and now it’s scanning now it’s found two
problems one with the body control three with the sonar system so start with
a body controller module that’s got a a code of u1000 which is relatively
common with an older car this is a lost communication code of the main computer
to any of the modules often though lose communication once in a while with one
or the other runs fine she hasn’t had any problems with it I see this all the
time if I had a customer who’s buying this vehicle and it didn’t work right
didn’t have that code I’d say walk away because that lost communication can
be a serious problem but when they run perfectly fine I see it all the time in
cars now it also has a code for the sonar system so we’ll see what that is it’s
lost communication with three of the sonar sensors interestly enough each one
of the three was seen exactly thirty nine times it records how many times it
happens so all these codes are related I’m assuming that the main computer has
the you 1,000 code of loss of communication because it’s lost
communication with some of these two but sonar systems for back and up and for
warning you’re getting too close that’s typical as these things age hey as long
as you use your eyes and ears and drive normally none of these systems are gonna
save you anyway and as they age they can cost a fortune to fix and most people
like this lady just ignore them I’m gonna check all the live data that gives
me so much information I don’t know what kind of shape this vehicle is in overall
within a few minutes and as you can see man there is a lot of data I analyzed it as
I scroll through it this particular system is color coded so if they’re bad
they’ll be either yellow or red or they’ll be highlighted and so just being
a normal color for example the map sensor data that’s pretty spot-on for this
vehicle I can’t even test it by putting it in
drive and now I’m going to turn off the AC that you’d make the MAP sensor drop
watch turned it off and it dropped just like it’s supposed to see the injector
pulse is good the mass airflow sensor is good there is so much information that I
can go through that shows me what kind of shape the engine is in the
transmission is in its wild, alternator is working there it is thirteen point seven
six volts without of your nothing going on the hood of the car so
actually the machine tells me that the vehicle is in excellent shape the
transmission has no problems the engine has no problems the electronic system
other than that stupid lost communication which is probably the
sonar system that’s in tip-top shape now I did notice something while I walking I could
smell a little smoldering during then when I come here
I can smell a tiny bit of smoldering this is a v6 engine ninety something
thousand miles the valve cover gaskets are seeping a tiny amount of oil which
then smolders it’s no big deal I seen cars go years this way with no
real problems at all it’s not even dripping on the ground now
if it’s dripping on the ground making a mess yeah it’s time to change them out
but as these things age a lot of them let just a little bit of oil come out of
it it doesn’t really mean anything I checked the tires and they’re wearing
evenly you have any scallops either the front one score the back ones and of
course now I’m gonna take it for a road test and a highway see it handles at
high speed but I drove it around here just around the block and man this thing
is fast I can see why people buy them they’re extremely fast vehicles the
owner may be a little old lady but she’s more like the little old lady from
Pasadena who wants to put her foot the pedal the metal every once in a while
and well step on the gas goes like stink and also handles like a
dream true this car is in excellent shape so all in all considering that it shifts
like a dream and runs like a dream doesn’t burn oil doesn’t use any coolant has no
serious trouble cold the data is all good I’m gonna tell my customer
keep the car it might go years more and in this particular case even though I say
don’t buy these used infinities if a customer had brought me this car and
said should I buy this car not and after I checked it out I’d say if you don’t
pay too much money for it it could be a good car but of course she already owns
the car it’s been paid for years ago so what the heck she might get another four
or five years of reasonably trouble-free driving with us thing as the saying goes
better the devil you know than the one you don’t, so if you never want to miss
another one of my new car repair videos remember to ring that Bell

  2. Likely will get 150,000 to Atleast 200k. Build quality for the engine and transmission isnt like a versa I'd compare it more with a modern z car

  3. Love my 2009 Infiniti g37 awd sedan. I'm the 4th owner, It had 2 small wrecks on carfax, but I bought her anyways because the price was right. 115,000 miles and going strong! Thanks for showing Infiniti/Nissan some Love Scotty. Never thought I'd see you praise an Infiniti based on your past videos. Guess you can teach an old dog new tricks:)

  4. Well the AWD system in the GTR's aren't the worst, and I'd like to imagine that some of it ended up in these G cars to some extent. Always wanted to try one in the rain or snow.

  5. Are these cars worth it? I bought one 2010 G37 Sedan, 120K miles… I’ve never had any problems and it’s a really reliable car. Can I get others opinions?

  6. I noticed Scotty's new tag on the Infinity instead of leaving his customer's plates on the car. Smart idea.
Flexing on us with your $5000 scan tool. Lol

  7. These are the kinds of cars to stay away from. People who have cars and ignore them just because the car still moves give cars and automakers a bad name. If something breaks, fix it!

  8. Scotty finally learned he shouldn't advertise customers license plates to millions on YouTube. Funny it took him that long. Probably got sued.

  9. My 2011 G37x just hit 140,000 miles. No issues in the year and a half I’ve had it. I’ve put about 10,000 miles on it so far. Love it just wish it got better mpg

  10. I have a 2009 Sentra, has 79k mi on it, never had a major issue with it yet, I also perform timely maintenance as well, (rotate tires, change oil, spark plugs, replaced CVT fluid) oh and also I don't "gun it" I've heard stories CVTs don't like high RPM

  11. Customer: can you check my car ? I'll be back in an hour.
    Scotty: sure
Customer returns: I didn't notice those tire marks in front of your house earlier.
Scotty: don't know about that but your car is really fast!

  12. I made a comment on your previous video about this exact car. And you proved my point exactly. This car can run for MILES properly taken care of. That VQ engine is damn near bullet proof

  13. As much crap as I talk about Nissan and their horrible CVT transmissions, I got to drive a Murano V6 with 185,000 miles around and liked it. Had to make sure no pending codes appear. The CVT (which has been replaced, btw) is very responsive to changes is throttle, and the thing wasn't slow either. Also very quiet and smooth. Made me like Nissan a bit more… only when everything works. The thing also needed a power steering rack due to leaks from the bellow boots, and an engine mount. Typical for a high mileage car.

  14. i think she shroud drive it until the wheels fall off . i have 1 with 189k and just today the ac is makings a racket.

  15. Hey Scotty which scanner is best for reading the most cars that's not a dealer scan tool. I don't wanna spend that much money on a make exclusive scan tool. Oh and one the can do reflashing too.

  16. What's the issue with these cars?? It's not a CVT, so are the regular automatic tranny's a problem? I'd prefer a manual but so hard to find. Do the all wheel drives go out? Better to stick with rear wheel? Brakes, ignition? Curious.. really thinking about buying one!! Looking at 2011-2014 range. Last generation of naturally aspirated v6 with Hydraulic power steering and port injection.. it's a thing of the past for all makes nowadays.

  17. I drove an 01 explorer with the original valve cover gaskets, it literally spat oil on the engine bay walls if I went above 3k rpm. I decided to change them at 244k just because I didn't want my explorer to become an exploder.

  18. I have a g35 08, almost same as the g37 and when i leave it sitting down overnight or during the day for about 6 hours it struggles to start up, but is not the starter, is more of if it wants to choke, but then runs good, and also when im driving at low speed it let go of brake it has a little jump, what can it be?

  19. Nissan is trash never buy Nissan NEVER POS WILL TURN INTO MONEY PIT CVT TRANSMISSION IS $4,000 to replace and only comes with 1 year warranty from dealership HAHAHAHA

  20. Nice overview. I have an '07 with 110,000 miles. They are built very well. Just one question, how does that old lady manage to turn the wheel!? They are weighted very heavy on these!

  21. Should I buy a used 2008 Lexus RX 350, 149,000K, one owner, we know the people well (and it has no issues from the past, plus its history is completely known)? Scotty ever talk about this car/SUV?

  22. Having owned a g35X I can attest to the reliability. Unfortunately the AWD models offer nothing in aftermarket so parts are pricey. The RWD model can at least tap into 350Z parts bin

  23. I have an 06 Infiniti G35 coupe with 127k miles on it. Only major thing replaced was the front struts. Should I sell or keep?

  24. Scotty, I drive my 2010 Corolla at 108 Mph regularly is this bad for the car? I am not joking. At max speed the governor kicks in and the fuel to the engine shuts off and once it goes below 108 mph the governor goes off and fuel again goes to the engine.

  25. Scotty I have a 2007 Infiniti g35 sedan with 185,000 miles I’ve had it for about a year now what’s your thoughts on it?

  26. Love me some scotty but not nissan. Friend of mine has a Sentra and Altima 5 and 4 years old and compressors on both ac are out about 900 dollars for repair each no thanks Nissan

  27. Hey Scotty, got a 2015 Ecoboost 3.5 f150. Runs and drives fine plenty of power but when it idles it’s got a slight vibration that happens about about every 4-5 seconds is this normal?

  28. Always keep a car as long as possible, as you know what you have replaced, and you know it had regular maintenance, Unless its a Lemon, and you keep throwing money at it

  29. I noticed the Registration Sticker, We no longer have then in Australia as all police cars are fitted with so much tech equipment,
Number Plate Recognition is their Favourite at the moment, Police drive around car parks with the camera and get you, or on the side of the road and rack up heaps of fines
Bad thing is No sticker, i do not remember when its due, What a government scam hey

  30. I've never understood why Scotty dislikes Infinitis so much. I've owned three G35/37s and I've only had to change the oil, brakes and tires. Their V6 engines from the 2000s through mid 2010s are solid, but Scotty frequently groups them with the poor quality CVT models.

  31. Got a 08 G37 coupe with a 6 Speed MT with 110,000 miles on it and it runs great. Don’t plan on giving up on it any time soon.

  32. I miss my 2005 Nissan quest had 170000 miles 18 year old girl run in to it back last month she going 50 miles a hour what save me and my mom was trailer hitch young girl car only took out 3 row on van miss it 9 year have it only problems were Cadillac converters and LCD screen for the mileage went out 2 time

  33. The Infiniti G35/37 cars were excellent cars overall and very reliable. I had one for 10 years with very few issues. The engine and transmission were solid. Absolutely no failures at all with the electronics ever! Can't say the same for the German rivals!

  34. I just picked up a 1992 Honda Civic with 240,000 miles for $525. First foreign I've ever owned and I have to admit I'm impressed.
