The 5 Minute Bike Wash – How To Clean Your Bike In A Hurry

cleaning bikes can be a real pain but I
hate riding dirty black actually hate it so that’s come up with a way of keeping
my bikes clean that didn’t take ages and wasn’t a faff here’s my five minute by
cleaning routine that I can do immediately after every ride especially
in the wet so my bike never gets really filthy and
I can always set off with a shiny bike the first thing I do when I get in is
immediately filled a bucket of hot water with washing up liquid now some people complain that it damages
the paint but I’ve never found this to be a problem before i start watching
that here is my controversial technique I use
wd-40 as my degreaser i know i can almost hear the disgust from here but
I’m disorganized it’s always on hand and it works for me
so give it a try put the chain in the big ring and the
smallest sprocket at the back and then spray wd-40 on your chain and cassette
and give them a bit of spin now get my bucket hot soapy water and
start getting stuck in with a cast sponge start at the top of the bike with
the handlebars first I’m pretty generous with the amount of
water that i’m using also do the saddle at this point because if any crap comes
off it then I still have time to wash it off
the rest of the part is it drips down actually got the end of a broken brush
to clean underneath my setup still works pretty well even though it’s got a
handle anymore now wash the top tube and the down cheap
the rest of the bike the front of the right now it’s time to
pop the front where that so I can wash it properly and also watch the inside of
the forks and particularly inside the brake calipers we’re all that black crap
hangs around front will next take a sponge and quickly run it over the tire
pressing quite firmly on the brake surface of the rim just to get any kind of black gunk off
the rip and collects if you’ve been breaking then returned to the rim you can do this really quickly and then
the spokes and then finally the hub with the front wheel still out it’s time to do the same with the back
will now rest the bike on the tips of the four blades and on the brake levers
that it’s much better for it then having upside down and it also means you can
clean the grumpiest bit of the bike the rear triangle see these days brake
calipers and then change days particularly the drive side next the
back will approach it exactly the same as the front except give the cassette a
good going-over as well the wd-40 you sprayed on earlier will
have loosened up any kind of oil grease so it should come up really quickly at
the tire on the rim times but the wheels back in now has 12 the last bit the drivetrain while you can clean the rest of the
black the wd-40 well then gently degreasing the chain to
the change down the big ring I take my black donkey sponge and just
start to rock shit like that you can see the straight way comes up
really clean now the chain has been really really thickly coated in old oil
it might take a second going over the wd-40 if that’s the case given us brown real
mac now and it shouldn’t take much to keep this clean because I clean it
regularly a sponge all dick just put it against the jockey wheels
give it a bit split right channels now nearly there remember to the both front and back of
the chainrings back to the chain out clean sponge and just a quick going over
with soap and water and it should be pretty much close to spotless now now that’s all the cleaning done all i
need to do now is rinse all the dirty soapy water off the bike house but we’re
great for that failing that is the bucket of clean
water yeah yeah now for the ultimate cheeks trick use
wd-40 for the lubricant as well as a degreaser now I know every rule in the book says
this isn’t going to work but I’ve use nothing but for the last
five years in the UK in winter doing five hour training rides that says quite
a lot and then use it for the road as well use it for something across the
mountain biking to if you use a normal degreaser the wd-40 isn’t going to work
ill last five minutes and the drive chain but if you use it for both the
greeting and lubricant some reason it seems to work now before you cry foul actually w40
have not paid me to endorse their product so this is just me being a lazy black
rider looking for a cheap trick spray it on your bike on the chain is
set to rail at trailer brake caliper brake caliper try making it part of your
writing routine just five minutes after ride and you always get to ride a shiny
bike will last longer and it will work better and if after that you still think
the wd-40 sucks feel free to complain in the comments
section down below to find out how to do a more thorough deep clean of your bike
including decreasing your chain click on that video to subscribe click

  1. First spray the bike with water 💦 then use a sponge 🧽 in that way most of the sand and dirt drop off and you won’t scratch the paint that much. WD40 very bad idea 🤪👎🏼

  2. I don't see why you need to wash a road bike. It says it in the name road bike that you ride on the roads so you are not riding through mud or dirt, therefore, there is nothing to make your bike dirty.

  3. The only way to finish this wash in 5' is to fill a bath tub with WD40 and dip the bike 5 times in it. If there is extra time left, you take a bath yourself. In WD40. Always.

  4. but to clean the bike u first need to ride the bike
but to ride the bike u first need to buy a bike
but to buy a bike u first need money
but to have money u first need to save up
but to save up it takes years proving that washing a bike takes more than 5 minutes

  5. Never use washing up liquid, It contains salt and will eventually dull your paint!, also use should slightly wet your frame before cleaning to soften the muck – if you don’t you will scratch your frame when cleaning. Use a good quality car shampoo and then a quality wax for the frame and this will keep it looking mint!

  6. What kind of soap does he use? He says "washing up liquid" and I have no idea what that means lol

  7. This is a nightmare, it's now in worse shape than it was before you started clean. Pieces of dirt and sand are flowed directly into bearings and moving surfaces with water & wd 40, then never washed out of there. Dirt oil sponge has left numerous oil spots all over the bike. WD-40 on breaks destroyed pads. WD40 on cassette & derailleurs became a magnet for sand and dust again. WD-40 destroys all sealings in hubs, bottom bracket, and soon longterm, also destroys the real lube there.
If you don't have enought time (1-2hrs) to clean your bike with dry tissues, accurately applying wet tissues, and accurately applying dry lubes – just better to not clean at all. Give it to repair shop to clean few times a year.
WD-40 is not a lube, it is a degreaser! It is much more liquid than water and goes into all bearings immediately, destroying their own lube and sealings!!

  8. Sir my friend's s works was destroyed by a moped in the philipines. We were riding to the kaybang tunnel i think then suddenly a moped crash in to my friend's s works and the moped driver can't pay the bike because he is just a trike driver. Got back to the us now

  9. Don't take this the wrong way (though some of you will) but….using WD40 or anything else as a cleaner / lubricant…wear gloves. Yea, those cheap blue or black things. You don't want WD40 or anything else absorbing into your skin, because, that schmidt ain't "non-toxic"….it is toxic and it may get you in the end! Don't let that crap repeatedly get on your skin!

  10. You should not have put the brush that you used to wash under the saddle back in the bucket, a you know this gets a lot of grit and what you have done is returned the grit to the clean water then the sponge will catch the grit and you will scratch the paint work on the frame….. nice video tho and lovely bike

  11. Or you could just use the muck off urban bicycle care pink liquid to spray it down wait 2munutes and then use hose pressure to rinse it off

  12. After every ride??? with all the detergent on the gras? Ridiculous!! did you ever mention "environment" …. every month on a suited ground i more than enough

  13. Its almost midnight here i am watching you tube videos on how to wash bikes. Went to the store, have all the stuff, still waiting on little green men to come out and clean my bike.

  14. Ok all good, but personally I'd clean the rear tyre and rim before cleaning the greasy cluster. Makes sense to me.

  15. If you use WD-40 on your gear casette, the latching sounds will become louder and it also wear down faster

all of the lubricants came out = less mechanic protection
    😀

  16. You must have OCD….the bike was clean before you started.

Stay off the grass verge while riding…..your road bike should not get dirty on tarmac……

  17. WD-40 is a brilliant degreaser and lubricates fine with regular application. On my motorcycles I follow up with a proper chain lubricant but on a well cared-for bicycle WD-40 is fine. Anything with more staying power will also do a better job of collecting grit.

  18. You should do something to not get all that WD40 into the environment, put the bike on an old newspaper or similar.

  19. Dude. That’s awesome. Wd40 is amazing. I get the same dirty looks on the piano tuning trade but i swear it works. It’s almost like people want a more expensive option but it’s the best. So cheers!

  20. I have used WD 40 and it cleaned the grease so well , it degrease all lubricant inside the chain internal bearing that it stated to produced creaking sound . The shop mechanic said chain could no longer be safe and needed a new one ( replaced). This is before your video . What went wrong in my case ? email- [email protected] gmail.com from Malaysia 😅

  21. Maybe you guys can do a bicycle version of this:

  22. I've got no problem using wd40 on bikes, but please, to spray it on the cassette could be bad for freewheel, ball bearings and hub in general. There's grease inside those parts, and wd40 could penetrate into the hub and screw up the grease inside.. be careful with wd40, don't spray it around like a loose cannon. Especially if you have disc brakes!

  23. I took my bike to a local bike shop for a service. After I picked it up and looked at the receipt the mechanic had written "WD40 is not a bike lubricant!". I couldn't believe it!

  24. Don't do it this way!! A clean chain that works well does not exist. WD 40 will wash the inner permanent grease out of your chain which you can never put back. If you absolutely want to use WD40 spray it on a cloth and wipe the chain with it. At 5:18 in this video this guy shows how to put WD40 on the brakes. Very silly. This video only helps the WD40 Company to sell more of their stuff. If you want to know to treat a chain the right way read the homepage of Sheldon Brown.

  25. 辛さを感じず、無理をしない方法。

    これは定期的に続けられる方法として最適だと思いました。
    洗車がとても楽しそうに見えました。

  26. When I get a nice shiny black chainring tatoo on my calf, THEN it’s time to clean the bike! 😜🚴‍♂️

  27. മലയാളി കൾ ല യ്ക്ക് ചെയ്യണെ

  28. My bike ended up worse than when I started. Not much grass here in Oz, so all I did was create mud… which then conveniently splattered on my bike. sigh

  29. My bike has this black thick oil on the chain, after I clean it, do I have to reapply this oil on it? And where do I have to get it from? Thanks
