Officers Save Man From Burning Car In Flower Mound

ONE LED OFFICERS ON A PURSUIT. PINE TREES ON TOP OF A BURNING CAR AND A MAN TRAPPED INSIDE WHEN TWO POLICE OFFICERS ROLLED UP ON THE SCENE. THERE WAS NO TIME TO WASTE. BRITTNEY IS LIVE TONIGHT WHERE THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED AND THE REST OF THE STORY. BRITTNEY. Reporter: DOUG, IF YOU TAKE A LOOK BEHIND ME, THESE TREES WERE REPLACED BY THE CITY. POLICE SAY THAT THE DRIVER CAME THROUGH THIS AREA RIGHT HERE AND WHERE I’M STANDING, THERE ONCE STOOD A 30-YEAR-OLD PINE TREE. THEY SAY IN THE ACCIDENT, IT FELL ON TOP OF THE CAR AND THEN CAUGHT ON FIRE. I PULLED HER OUT TO THE OTHER SIDE. THEY SAW THE GRAY SMOKE BEFORE THEY ARRIVED AT THE CAR ACCIDENT. A CAR ON FIRE IS A WHOLE OTHER DANGER IN ITSELF. WHEN THEY PULLED UP, THEY COULDN’T SEE THE CAR AT ALL. THE DRIVER HAD TAKEN OUT FOUR OR FIVE TREES. THE LAST TREE WAS INSIDE ALL OF THE BRANCHES. THE METAL WAS SMOLDERING UNDERNEATH A 30-YEAR-OLD PINE TREE. HE WRAPPED AROUND THE TREES. WE SEE FLAMES COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE ENGINES. NEIGHBORS RAN OUTSIDE AS SMOKE FILLED THEIR STREET. THERE WAS A GUY SCREAMING INSIDE, YELLING FOR A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. I GRABBED MY FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THEIR FIRST PRIORITY WAS GETTING THE DRIVER OUT SAFELY. BROKEN GLASS ON HIM AND ALL OVER THE CAR. AND WORKING WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO PUT OUT THE FLAMES BECAUSE OF THE DRY BRUSH AND HOMES NEARBY. THERE WAS SMOKE EVERYWHERE. THE DRIVER MADE IT OUT OKAY. NEIGHBORS SAID THE SHARDS OF CLASS AND SHARED WOOD REMINDS THEM OF WHAT THEY SAW THAT DAY. AND HOW THINGS COULD HAVE TURNED OUT VERY DIFFERENTLY. POLICE TELL ME THE TRAFFIC DIVISION IS INVESTIGATING THE CAUSE OF THAT ACCIDENT.
